Three ways to organize freight shipments

How difficult the simple is! Sometimes the preparation of clear, understandable actions is so complex and multitasking that deceptive simplicity turns into a trap.

Let’s talk about freight shipments. It seems that everything is perfectly clear - to transport goods such as food, furniture, Josef Seibel shoes, clothes, etc. from one place to another. But when it comes to the numerous documents, the search for vehicles, the calculations of speed and traffic density, the percentage of insurance and the amount of costs, it becomes clear - freight shipments is one of the most confusing and troublesome things that an unprepared person has to deal with.

So how to organize freight shipments?

There are three methods:

Method 1. Organization of a corporate transport department.
Complexity is high. Efficiency is high.
The first method is created for those happy organizations that do not have to save to survive. In this case, they regularly go to branches and carry out large-scale deliveries. Such departments can afford a number of new employees and a couple of large trucks.
Those who organize freight shipments in this way independently buy cars and create a staff including drivers, loaders, freight forwarders, dispatchers, car mechanics. Recently, the staff includes doctors who monitor the health of drivers before long-distance trips and lawyers involved in cargo insurance.
Is it profitable to create your own transport department?
The answer is positive, but on one condition - the company in the regular mode of work will be able to ensure a 100% load of flights. Only big organizations can do this.

Method 2. Truck rent.
Complexity is low. Efficiency is average. There are fewer supporters of the second method. The fact is that it is not difficult to rent a truck, but this does not relieve the hassle. Someone will still have to break away from work and make a route, look for the owners of the right vehicles, negotiate with them, and then - if the project requires - hire porters, riggers, freight forwarders.
However, the second method has its advantages. You do not need to keep a car park, pay to extra full-time employees, spend on regular maintenance. And if the landlords can provide their own drivers, then the second way is approaching the third - to order freight shipments in the transport company.

Method 3. Contacting the transport company.
Complexity is low. Efficiency is high.
Ordering freight shipments from specialists suits almost everyone. Both in large companies and in small private enterprises they do not want to drop out of the working schedule and do things they do not know before - making up a route, ordering trucks and finding an insurance company.
What is the simplicity of the third method?
The transport company itself will calculate the cost of transportation, find trucks and employees, sign an agreement with you, prepare all necessary documents, and if necessary, arrange insurance. To deliver different types of cargo such as clothes, footwear of various shoe styles, food, etc. from one point to another, you do not need to keep a fleet of trucks, pay for gasoline or look for those who will provide related services - forwarding, rigging, assembly-disassembly or installation work.
Customers of transport companies do not know the difficulties with the types of transport. Large companies are ready to involve in projects the rarest cargo vehicles and all types of transport – trucks, trains, planes or ships.

Which of the three methods is the best?

All of them are in demand, which means they are equally valuable. You should just choose the most convenient to transport the goods from one place to another.
